From 1993 to the year 2000 Purple penguin Records was one of the mainstays of the Bristol Hip Hop and Beats scene. Wether it be the importation of rare underground Hip Hop 12″s from the west coast of America or the tracking down of hard to find breaks lp’s, Bristol’s increasingly innovative producers and dj’s were making a beeline for the front door. Members of Massive Attack, Portishead , Smith and Mighty and many other influential artists could all be seen purusing the racks at one time or another.
However, with the closure of the shop and associated labels Cup Of Tea records and Hombre there was a gap in the market for a beats/Hip Hop led label.
|
Born out of this scene, former Purple penguin owner and recording artist of this name Ben Dubuisson decided to take on the mantle with High Noon Music. Now recording under the moniker Hundred Strong, firstly for Hombre and then for London label Altered Vibes , Dubuisson could see a whole host of talented local artists who required a home.
Not wanting to go down the route of so many labels and over commit in the early years releases have been somewhat sporadic But what ties everything together is the quality and musical ethos that underpins all the releases. Drawing heavily on the local mix of Hip-hop, reggae and latterly Dubstep influences. Releases have featured artists such as Numskulz, Boca 45, Western Roots, Hundred Strong and many other local producers.

Now in 2012 comes the time to move things forward. With the release of a whole collection of 7″s the next 6 months see a busy release schedule for High Noon. This site will be regularly updated with all information regarding releases and will also feature bonus downloads and free give aways.
It may not move quickly but as a veteran of the Bristol beats scene High Noon comes correct and brings you the pain!
